The Team Trust Indicator (TTI) explores how a team can reach higher performance levels through increasing the trust factor among its team members.

More efficient and effective in the business context than team building exercises, the Team Trust Indicator (TTI) enables teams to work together more effectively. It enables teams to measure and manage levels of trust within the team, as it goes through different stages of team development. Using the TTI, the team can identify trust building behaviours that are particularly needed and relevant in their team. Why does this matter?

Why is Trust Important for Team Performance?

Well, research suggests that building higher levels of trust is the most cost effective way to boost team performance within an organisation. For example, recent research by Google found that the most important factor contributing to a team’s effectiveness was TRUST. Those organisations which focus on fostering trust within their teams, have stronger employee engagement, deal with conflicts more constructively, prioritise innovation and are better at profit growth and achieving results.

What is the Team Trust Indicator?

It is an online questionnaire, feedback report and facilitated team process that enables a team or work group to identify and manage dynamics within the team that are restricting and blocking high performance and productivity. It measures levels of trust within the team against 9 important trust criteria – the criteria that people use to decide whether to trust or not. The aim is to provide a structured approach to identifying and managing the trust gaps between what team members feel they need from each other and what they sense they are actually receiving. The tool then gives the team a step-by-step process for exploring and resolving these trust deficits.

The TTI is designed for all teams that have worked together for at least a short time and is also well suited to remote or virtual teams where the level of control over the results of people’s actions is limited because of geographical distance or time zones. It is particularly suited to multicultural and virtual teams where there is a greater potential for reserve and mistrust.

How can the Team Trust Indicator help teams and organisations?

The Team Trust Inicator is an excellent diagnostic with which to introduce a team coaching session or workshops as it offers a strong insight into how well a team is working together. It is particularly valuable for an organisation going through a period of change, where trust needs to be maintained or re-built.

Particular business issues that the Team Trust Indicator can resolve are:

  • Building machinery building the letters T-R-U-S-TRemoving boundaries that can arise within teams due to cultural differences, departmental silos, internal ‘politics’ and geographical distance
  • Resistance to change
  • Low level of engagement and commitment to team objectives
  • Lack of innovation and drive to solve problems and reach team objectives
  • Communication breakdown

News Flash

WorldWork is developing a multi-rater leadership tool called the Trusted Leadership Indicator (TLI) that will be available in the autumn of 2018.

Andra Morosi, Team Trust Indicator Brand Ambassador talks about team coaching using the TTI.

“The most valuable feature of the Team Trust Indicator is its capacity to put figures on team trust and to quantify some qualitative human perceptions. The outcomes are meaningful, easy to understand and form the thread of how the team works.”
